Root canal procedure Home
Root canals in tooth anatomy is the naturally occurring space within the root of a tooth. It consists of the pulp cavity and the main canals. The nerves are housed within the root canals. The term 'root canal' is also loosely used to refer to 'root canal procedures', in which the pulp and the nerves are removed and the resulting space cleaned and disinfected, then later filled with a non reactive material and this is u sually performed in severe cases of tooth damage caused by either disease or trauma. Most dentists can perform root canal procedures, however very severe or complex cases are usually referred to a qualified root canal specialist also known as an endodontist who is specialized in the internal structures of the teeth.
